On grounds that was leased from the City Council, the present Swedish Church was built in 1883. During more than a hundred years, the Church has been able to maintain intensive activity for the cause for which it was build up. In the beginning, work among the emigrants took most of the time. Documents show that during the most hectic years of emigration era, (1850-1910), 50 000 people visited the Swedish Church!
History often means changes, but from the very start, the Swedish Church has worked along the same lines as it does today - Services, visiting, supportive activities, cultural links and interpersonal contacts.
